CBS Boston reported that Massachusetts State Police, along with agents from Homeland Security Investigations arrested three individuals in Logan Airport with 150 pounds of weed in their luggage. The three individuals arrived in Boston on a flight from Sacramento with about 50 pounds of marijuana each.
Massachusetts State Police officers were tipped off about the passengers by officers in Sacramento. Together with the Homeland Security agents, officers set up surveillance in the passengers’ terminal and in the luggage area. Once the passengers collected their bags, officers confronted the trio and placed them under arrest. They are currently facing charges of marijuana trafficking and conspiracy to violate drug laws.
Recreational Marijuana Possession Laws
Although recreational marijuana is legal in both California and Massachusetts, it is illegal to bring marijuana aboard any federally-regulated flight. Moreover, these three individuals were well over the limit for legal possession in both states. In California, that limit is one ounce of marijuana or eight grams of concentrates. In Massachusetts, adults over 21 are legally allowed to possess one ounce of marijuana or have up to ten ounces at home.
